This past Friday was one of those perfect concert experiences that occur all too infrequently. You may know “pub rock” trio The Figgs as Graham Parker’s band, or you may know The Figgs from their 1994 hit “Favorite Shirt”
, but they are so much more than those references. The Figgs write and perform well-crafted power pop songs as a skin-tight ensemble. As you’ll hear in the recording offered below, they are also an energetic and entertaining live act.
My experience of recording the Figgs was also outstanding. I was fortunate to meet up with some Figgs fans including Sal (who made this all happen) and Steve (from the excellent music blog Baby, You Got a Stew Goin’!), and also chat with the band. The soundman at Maxwell’s not only mixed a perfect set, but also assisted me in setting up my recording in an ideal location. As a result, the sound quality on this recording is about as superb as could possibly be captured in a venue of this size.
Many thanks to the excellent Figgs, Mike, Pete and Pete, to Sal, and to Craig the soundman. When the Figgs come to your town, you must go and experience this band!

As with all artists featured on this site, if you download this recording please purchase the newest Figgs CD:
outside of a few replacements like songs on the bands 1994 album i always felt these guys had and continue to have nothing to offer musically.
the brief stint with G.P. was interesting to a point but really left me feeling empty. it’s hard to type that since i believe that G.P. could fly if he put his mind to it…
other than that, you did an amazing taping job.
I had the chance to listen to most of this on the way to work this morning. Figgs fans should consider this the long awaited second volume of “Continue to Enjoy the Figgs”, despite the slight overlap (3 of 11 songs). You really captured the sheer joy of a typical Figgs show. Great recording, raw, exciting performances. Terrific job all around. With a guest appearance by Guy Lyons to boot!
What an excellent recording.Cymbal heaven!.
After hearing The Figgs performance(for the first time), I bought a couple of their albums.
QUID PRO QUO,anyone?.
That is so freaking great. They really are a fantastic band, as this recording attests. They are also really nice guys, which makes your new support of them all the more sweet.
Fantastic recording by you, great show by the Figgs. Thanks for sharing!
Indie,
Maybe you should pick up one of their other 8 records. Reading your post it looks to me that you don’t really know anything about this band. They “continue to have nothing to offer musically”, “the brief stint with G.P.”.
You are a joke, They have been making music with Graham for 12 years jerk off. Get with the program.
’twas a very old and very wrong post that you are replying to, posted back in August. But you’re right, Figgs rule.
They are playing a few gigs in California in the next couple of weeks:
05/08 Los Angeles, CA – Spaceland
05/09 Long Beach, CA – Alex’s Bar
05/10 Long Beach, CA – Babe’s Warehouse
I’m looking forward to their return to NYC gigs later this year. I was disappointed that circumstances got in the way of me recording them in December. We’ll capture them next time.
Grammar correction, friendly version.
