Two Saturdays ago, JEFF The Brotherhood played a set at 285 Kent under the most intense conditions that we’ve ever experienced at an indoor concert. The audience members were drenched in sweat and one can only imagine the heat on stage. I felt like I had jumped fully clothed into a swimming pool. At one point early in the set, Jake received an electrical shock from a sweaty contact with the microphone, and was left to place a sock over the mic to prevent further shocks — DIY equipment at its strangest. Despite the conditions, JEFF played an energetic set of material mixed among their established songs and selections from their excellent new album We Are The Champions (Infinity Cat). Of the new songs, the aptly named “Shredder” (streaming below) is a fast-core number with single potential, and “Ripper” is stretched out live to almost 7 minutes. The most enjoyable aspect of a JEFF concert is the idea that these two brothers are having the time of their lives, and even under the sweatiest conditions, it seemed as if they still did.
I recorded this show with the Neumanns on a stand back at the soundboard and mixed it with a vocal-heavy board feed. The sound quality of this set was exceptional under the circumstances, and the quality of this recording is quite good. Enjoy!
