On a day when the world took an historic step forward, Animal Collective made a little history of their own. Tuesday was the release day for Merriweather Post Pavilion, the band’s eighth studio album that had gathered stellar reviews and “best of 2009” raves even before its release — along with the announcement of a world tour. The celebration of the new album took place last night appropriately at a Ballroom, and there was clearly a festive atmosphere. Although the band took things slowly at first, the set gradually built the energy for such Merriweather highlights at “Summertime Clothes”, a slightly reworked “Daily Routine” and the set closing “Brother Sport”. It was however, the performance of Strawberry Jam’s “Fireworks” where AC really shined, as Avey began the song with a brief version of the obscure “Lablakely Dress” before stretching out “Fireworks” to nearly 13 minutes — including an inspired middle “jam” section. The remainder of the set — which included “My Girls” and two encores — was merely icing on the celebratory cake.
We recorded this set from the “sweet spot” on the floor with our mobile rig. Although the large ceilings created some muddiness in the sound, we feel that the hyper-directional microphones did some excellent work. Enjoy!

helluva show. thx for helping relive it the morning after.
Thanks so much! Sound was awesome last night and I’m sure you got a great pull here.
thanks. i missed this one last night. couldn’t find a ticket outside, and saw some people buy fakes. such a scam. can’t wait to hear how banshee beat sounded.
as always, thanks!
THANKS for taping! great show, can’t wait to see em again
Apologies for all the down time. This seriously has been by far the most popular download in the history of the site. I have twice today increased the capacity of the private server and we’re still not able to handle the volume.
Thanks for everyone’s patience. I have literally not received a single email that showed any impatience whatsoever.
And your good karma shall be rewarded — tonight’s show was actually a tighter and better performance than the Grand Ballroom show, the sound quality in the venue was incredible, really absolutely superb sound. The best news of all is that I recorded with my best rig in the perfect location and the recording is perhaps the best ever captured for nyctaper. It won’t be up tonight, but if the volume drops off, I hope to have it up sometime tomorrow afternoon or evening — server permitting.
I shall wait – no worries. :P
Animal Collective are one of the most exciting bands around. thanks for sharing this video. Ciao from Italy
thanks for posting this. show sold out so quick and couldn’t score a ticket.
full support for this band for many years now and always push their stuff as much as possible through deejaying, sharing video & official web-links and recommending and playing their music at the shop i work at.
